KUALA LUMPUR, May 2014 - Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) bagged an impressive 19 gold medals and one silver medal out of 20 inventions entered in the 25th International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX) 2014 held here recently.

The medals were obtained in six categories and there were Agriculture, Environmental and Renewable Energy, Educational Items, Materials, Biotechnology Health and Fitness and Manufacturing Process.

Dean of the School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering, Professor Dr. Hanafi Ismail also received a Special Award from the Asia Invention Association through its winning product 'Eco-Rubfoam: A Mulfuctional Engineering Foam From Various Rubber Waste.'

The exhibition, which was held in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, gathered the latest inventions and innovations from Malaysia, Asia and Europe. It brings together established as well as young inventors from universities, research institutions and corporations.

ITEX is an international platform for local and international inventors and research scientists to present their inventions and innovations to the business community to gain wider recognition which could lead to commercialisation opportunities.
