VC RECEIVES COURTESY CALL FROM UNIVERSITY OF TOKYO PROFESSOR
PENANG, 26 Jun 2014 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr. Omar Osman received a courtesy call from a leading academic and expert in electrical and electronic engineering field from University of Tokyo, Japan, Professor Dr. Kunihiro Asada, today in his office in the main campus.
Kunihiro, who is actually on an official visit to USM School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (PPKEE) as an external examiner appointed by PPKEE for academic year 2013/2014, was accompanied by the PPKEE Dean, Professor Dr. Mohd Zaid Abdullah and lecturer, Zulfiqar Ali Abd. Aziz.
“This is the first time I am visiting the USM campus and I am so happy and delighted especially to be able to meet with the Vice-Chancellor,” said Kunihiro in fluent English.
In the meeting which lasted about an hour, they exchanged views and shared experiences on some similarities and differences of their respective institutions as well as the scenarios and challenges inherent in the collaboration between universities and industry, particularly in the field of electrical and electronics engineering in their respective countries.
As a leading expert in the field of Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) Circuits and System Design Semiconductor Devices, Kunihiro was given the responsibility to head the VLSI Design and Education Center in University of Tokyo, where he holds the position as the Centre’s director since 2000. – Translation & Text: Tan Ewe Hoe/Photo: Mohd Fairus Md.
