KUBANG KERIAN, 21 July 2014 - Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dato’ Dr. Omar Osman urged USM centres of responsibility and departments to be more creative in raising funds and carrying out their responsibilities in meeting the objectives.
During the officiating of the "School of Medical Sciences Wall of Honour" here, Omar praised the efforts taken by the School of Medical Sciences (PPSP).
"Creative things can be done beyond medical education with the number of PPSP staff exceeding 600 people who can also help express creativity among students and also to explore entrepreneurship as the DNA for Medical Science," Omar said.
According to the Medical Strategic Communications Unit Coordinator (MedikSCOM), Research Division, PPSP, Dr. Muzaimi Mustapha, the PPSP 'Wall of Honour', Love USM, Love PPSP is a fundraising initiative for the ‘Digital Medical & Health Museum’ or the ‘Museum of Life’ project undertaken by a group of lecturers and medical students of PPSP.
Muzaimi who is also the Project Leader of PPSP Wall of Honour said that funds were raised through voluntary contributions from among the PPSP community when they purchased individual ceramic plaque which is engraved with the name and a short dedication by the donor. The engraving work is carried out by group of lecturers and students from the School of the Art.
He added that work on the first phase of the PPSP 'Wall of Honour' project started in February 2014 with the wall mural design at the Dataran Merah Pelajar based on the theme 'Medical Science' which displayed the human body, network of blood vessels and nerves, as well as organs of the body.
Reservation of the ceramic plaques were opened to the PPSP staff in March and April 2014 while the process of producing the ceramic plaques began in May and June 2014 at the School of the Art’s ceramics workshop.
Each ordered ceramic plaque was next inscribed with the donor’s name and dedication text to PPSP and USM before being incorporated into the human body in the wall mural.
According to Muzaimi, about 66 people from among the PPSP staff (54 academic and 12 non-academic) contributed to the success of the first phase of this project with a contribution amounting to RM10,000.
