PENANG, 5 September 2014 - Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is proud of Professor Dr. Abdul Latif Ahmad’s achievement as one of the recipients of the prestigious 2014 Merdeka Award.

“He is among the emerging young academics who have been groomed to continue the legacy of academic development of the country in the future,” said USM Vice-Chancellor Professor Dato’ Dr. Omar Osman.

Abdul Latif, born in Beranang Selangor on 4 January 1967, was recently recognised as one of the world’s scientists with the most influential scientific mind and was once Dean of the School of Chemical Engineering and Dean of Research, Fundamental Sciences.

This academician was also involved in various committees including the committee which fostered a scientific research culture among students through research and innovation competitions at the national and international levels.

“I personally and on behalf of USM community feel proud and wish to congratulate him for the recognition he received and we are grateful for the success as well,” added Omar.

Meanwhile, USM Board of Governors Chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Zulkefli A. Hassan also praised and commended Abdul Latif for his achievements.

“Members of the USM Board of Governors are so proud of the achievements he made and hope that they will serve as an inspiration to the university community to continue to work harder to contribute more to the nation and the global community,” said Zulkefli.
