APUCEN 2014/2017 COUNCIL MEMBERS CONTINUE LEGACY
PENANG, September 2014 – The Asia-Pacific University-Community Engagement Network (APUCEN) Council members recently casted their votes among the institutions of higher education in the Asia Pacific region to elect the 2014-2017 Council, continuing the legacy of the 2011-2014 leadership in community engagement programmes.
For the first time, the process of election to choose a committee was conducted on-line, using a system that was developed by the Secretariat of the 2nd APUCEN Summit of 2014.
The President of Kyoto University of Foreign Studies (KUFS), Japan, Professor Dr. Takeshi Matsuda was elected as APUCEN Vice-President under the leadership of the permanent President who is from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Professor Dato’ Dr. Omar Osman.
According to the President who is also USM Vice-Chancellor, members of the Council help to bridge all countries in the region and expand their community engagement efforts and community partnership with higher education institutions.
“I would like to thank all the members of the Council who have performed well for APUCEN 2011/2014 and raised the level of engagement with Community,” the president said during APUCEN Dinner held in conjunction with the 2nd APUCEN Summit in 2014 which was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education II, YB P. Kamalanathan P. Panchanathan.
The 2nd APUCEN Summit 2014 was attended by 85 representatives from 11 universities and the representatives included Vice-Chancellors, Rectors and Presidents of the local and foreign institutions.
