EDUCATION MINISTER REAPPOINTS USM VC AND DVC (ACADEMIC)
PENANG, 29 September 2014 - The Education Ministry has renewed and extended the tenure of Professor Dato’ Dr. Omar Osman, 56, as Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Vice-Chancellor for another two years beginning 28 September 2014.
Under Section 12(1) of the USM Constitution, I re-appoint Profesor Dato' Dr. Omar Osman as USM Vice-Chancellor,” said Education Minister Tan Sri Dato' Haji Muhyiddin Haji Mohd. Yassin in a letter dated 26 September 2014.
Omar was first appointed as USM Vice-Chancellor on 27 September 2011 replacing Professor Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak.
Muhyiddin Yassin congratulated Omar and expressed hope that Omar would continue his outstanding contribution and impressive work carried out so far, and that Omar would continue to give his best.
Meanwhile, Professor Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Shukri Mustapa Kamal, 55, had his tenure as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs) extended for another two years from September 15. He was first appointed to that position in 2007.
“I would like to thank the federal government, especially Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Muhyiddin who is also Deputy Prime Minister, for entrusting me with the academic responsibility yet again,” said Omar in a brief statement today.
Ahmad Shukri said, he is honoured and delighted to be re-appointed and look forward to another term in working with the Vice-Chancellor and USM top management to take the university to greater heights especially in academic excellence.
