INCHEON, SOUTH KOREA, 2 October 2014 - The pride of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Lim Chee Wei brought cheers to the Malaysian camp today when he contributed another gold medal through karate, in the ‘kata’ category.

Lim defeated Indonesia’s exponent, Fidelys Lolobua 3-2 in the hard-fought final at the Gyeyang Gymnasium to maintain Malaysia’s good record in the event.

"I am extremely delighted to have won the gold medal. I had expected a medal but not the gold as this is my first participation at the Asian Games and the competition was stiff. However I was very determined to contribute at least one medal for the country," said the 23-year-old athlete.

The Penang-born Lim added that it was indeed a big surprise to have won the gold medal in his debut at the Incheon Asian Games and he will cherish his maiden win for the rest of his life.

"This victory will spur me to work harder and continue to bring more glory for my beloved country," said Lim, who also dedicated his success to his family and coaches.

Lim started this tournment by receiving a ‘bye’ in the first round before defeating Nepal’s Ram Bastolai Parshu in the quarterfinal and Japan’s Issei Shimbaba in the semifinal.

"Thank you to all Malaysians who prayed for me and my team, and my deepest appreciation to Universiti Sains Malaysia who has always supported my participation and encouraged me whenever I win or lose."
