POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS’ SUCCESS CELEBRATED
PENANG, 22 October 2014 - Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Institute of Postgraduate Studies (IPS) celebrated the success of postgraduate students who excelled in various fields at the Majlis Persada Kencana (MPK) 2014 ceremony.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr. Omar Osman who officiated the event also presented certificates and awards to the graduates.
“The University is proud of their success and I congratulate all the students who have made history, not only for themselves but also for the university.
“I believe that USM can provide facilities for seeking knowledge and produce more holistic individual students in the face of all odds,” said the Vice-Chancellor.
According to the Acting Dean of IPS Professor Dr. Fauziah Ahmad, MPK will provide motivation and encouragement to more than 10,000 postgraduate students from 30 countries to be more diligent in their studies and other fields.
MPK 2014 gave recognition to nine categories which included two major categories, namely Best Researcher and Best Thesis. Other categories were the Best Research Award, Sanggar Sanjung Award (Journal Publications & Patents) and Best Student (Coursework and Mixed Mode).
“I am very grateful for this award and I would be more conscientious in my studies at the next level,” said Best Student, Intan Nursyuhada Muhamad Nasir who is pursuing her doctorate at the beginning of next year with USM Centre for Islamic Development Management Studies (ISDEV).
Two more top students, Bisan AB Alsalibi and Wong Kin Loon, also hoped to continue their studies to PhD level and were grateful for the awards received.
Recognition was given in line with the mission of USM as a pioneering university in intensive research to empower future talents for the benefit of the bottom billion.
MPK is a climatic event that recognises and honours outstanding academic achievements especially in research and publication of postgraduate students at USM through the presentation of the coveted Persada Kencana Award (Golden Pavillion Award).
