HUSM INNOVATION ‘HEAD BUN’ WINS GOLD AWARD
PENANG, 20 October 2014 - Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) through the lecturers and the supporting staff of USM Hospital (HUSM) called Lateral group has invented an innovative tool named ‘Head Bun’.
The innovation received a gold award at the International Convention on QC Circles (ICQCC) 2014 held in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 12th to 15th October 2014.
‘Head Bun’ is a tool used to ensure that the flow of oxygen to the lungs is unobstructed. ‘Head Bun’ was also proven by the data collection in terms of intubation time, the quick result and is cheaper as compared to other equipment with the same functions in the market that cost 11 times more in terms of price.
This tool is very important in the treatment procedure to ensure that a patient is well prepared before a surgery is performed in the Operation Theatre.
It directly helps USM Hospital as well as other hospitals in reducing their overall expenditure.
ICQCC is the 39th annual international convention with the theme 'Global Prosperity Through Enhanced Quality‘. A total of 900 participants from China, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Tanzania, Thailand and the host country Sri Lanka participated to present more than 200 innovations in the respective categories.
Lateral was chosen to represent Malaysia together with nine other groups after winning the National ICC Convention 2013 with its innovation titled Interference During Endotracheal Intubation of Patients in Operation Theatre.
