PENANG HILL INTERNATIONAL RUN ATTRACTS 2,000 PARTICIPANTS

Desasiswa Fajar Harapan Residents Council together with Fajar Harapan Alumni Secretariat and USM Student Buddies in collaboration with the International Relations Office USM, Penang Hill Corporation, Public Works Department and Penang Botanic Gardens Department will be organising the Penang Hill International Run for the first time, scheduled to be held on Saturday, 29 November 2014, starting at 8.00 a.m. at the Penang Botanic Gardens.

The Penang Hill International Run is expected to attract around 2,000 participants from 15 countries among them Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Sweden, China and Finland.

The run is divided into four categories namely Varsity Category (Men), Varsity Category (Women), School Category (Girls) and School Category (Boys).

Participants are required to gather at the starting point at Botanical Gardens, Penang where they will make their way up the hill. The closing ceremony and prize presentation will be conducted at the top of Penang Hill.

This event is held to promote sustainable lifestyles among students and school children, student engagement in internationalisation, and producing holistic students who excel in both academic and co-curricular activities.

According to the Penang Hill International Run Project Director, Amirah Hanani binti Yahaya, the programme is expected to have an impact in transforming the minds of the participants towards a more sustainable lifestyle.

“The cooperation of many parties proved that many are conscious of the importance of sustainable and healthy lifestyle in line with current development,” said Amirah.
