USM PENANG, 16 June 2026 – The HBP Sports Day 2026, themed ‘Stronger Together,’ was successfully held in a vibrant and energetic atmosphere at the Azman Hashim Sports Complex, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).
The event brought together students, academic staff, support staff, alumni, and members of the School of Housing, Building and Planning (HBP) community in a celebration of sportsmanship, healthy living, and community engagement.
The event was jointly organised by the HBP Student Representative Council (MPP HBP) and the School of Housing, Building and Planning Students’ Association (HBPA).
The event aimed to cultivate teamwork, sportsmanship, and unity among members of the HBP community through active participation in sporting activities and friendly competition.
Three main sporting events were contested throughout the day, namely badminton, futsal, and dodgeball, attracting enthusiastic participation from various categories of participants.
The competitions not only showcased athletic talent but also promoted camaraderie, mutual respect, and a sense of belonging among participants.
Project Director of HBP Sports Day 2026, Nur Shafika Dul Hanan, emphasised that the event was more than just a competition for victory.
“Rather, it served as an important platform for strengthening relationships among students, academic staff, and support personnel within HBP.
“The success of a team is not measured solely by winning, but also by the spirit of teamwork, discipline, and mutual respect demonstrated throughout the tournament,” she said.
She also expressed her appreciation to the HBP management, the USM Student Representative Council, participants, referees, and all organising committee members for their dedication and cooperation in ensuring the success of the event.
Meanwhile, the HBP Dean, Associate Professor Sr. Ts. Dr. Md Azree Othuman Mydin, described HBP Sports Day 2026 as an important initiative that reflects HBP’s commitment to holistic student development and community well-being.
“HBP Sports Day is more than a sporting event; it is a platform that brings together students, staff, and alumni in the spirit of unity, friendship, and mutual support.
“Such programme plays a significant role in nurturing balanced graduates who excel not only academically but also in leadership, teamwork, resilience, and personal development,” he said.
He added, “The enthusiastic participation witnessed today clearly demonstrates the strong sense of belonging and togetherness within the HBP family.”
“Furthermore, the organisation of HBP Sports Day 2026 is in line with the university’s aspiration to develop well-rounded graduates by promoting excellence in academics, leadership, physical health, and character development through active involvement in co-curricular and sporting activities,” he explained.
The programme concluded with a prize-giving ceremony officiated by the Deputy Dean (Academic, Career and International), Gs. Dr. Mohd Ismail Isa.
