BEYOND DATA COLLECTION: USM@KL PREPARES BUSINESS ANALYTICS TALENT TO DRIVE SMARTER DECISIONS

KUALA LUMPUR, 3 July 2026 – In the digital economy, organisations are generating more data than ever before. However, data alone does not create value. Its real impact lies in the ability to interpret information, identify patterns and turn insights into decisions that improve performance, efficiency and competitiveness.

Responding to this demand, the Master of Business Analytics (MBIZ) at Universiti Sains Malaysia Kuala Lumpur (USM@KL) attracted interest from professionals, aspiring analysts and recent graduates during the USM@KL Open Day.

The programme was showcased as a postgraduate pathway for individuals who want to build analytical capabilities and apply them to real business challenges. Visitors engaged with academic representatives to better understand the programme’s curriculum, industry relevance and career opportunities in the rapidly expanding field of business analytics.

Designed to meet evolving industry needs, the Master of Business Analytics integrates business analytics, data analytics, business intelligence, statistics and strategic management. This combination enables students to develop both technical analytical skills and business understanding, allowing them to translate complex data into practical and actionable insights.

The programme prepares students to support evidence-based decision-making, improve operational efficiency and contribute to organisational growth. It also develops the ability to approach business problems with analytical thinking, technological awareness and strategic judgement.

According to Dr. Ng Wei Chien, Programme Coordinator and Senior Lecturer from the School of Management, the programme reflects the growing importance of data literacy and analytical capabilities across industries.

He said organisations today depend on accurate insights to make informed decisions and remain competitive. The programme therefore equips students with analytical thinking, technical competencies and strategic perspectives that allow them to transform data into meaningful business solutions.

Throughout the Open Day, visitors also received personalised academic consultations and admissions guidance, enabling them to explore the programme’s flexible learning pathway, industry-oriented curriculum and diverse career opportunities.

Graduates of the programme are well prepared to pursue careers as business analysts, data analysts, business intelligence specialists, digital transformation consultants, strategy managers and other analytics-focused professionals across the public and private sectors.

Through the Master of Business Analytics, USM@KL continues to develop professionals who can move beyond data collection and use analytics to drive smarter decisions, digital transformation and sustainable business value.
