KUALA LUMPUR, 3 July 2026 – As mental health awareness continues to grow, the demand for qualified clinical psychology professionals who can provide ethical, evidence-based and compassionate care has become increasingly important.

Responding to this need, the Master in Clinical Psychology at Universiti Sains Malaysia Kuala Lumpur (USM@KL) drew strong interest from prospective postgraduate candidates, working professionals and aspiring mental health practitioners during the USM@KL Open Day.

The programme was highlighted as one of USM@KL’s key postgraduate offerings, providing visitors with the opportunity to engage directly with academic experts, explore the curriculum and gain a deeper understanding of the professional preparation required to become clinical psychologists.

Designed to connect academic learning with intensive clinical practice, the programme integrates advanced psychological theory, supervised clinical training, evidence-based intervention, applied research and professional development. This comprehensive approach prepares students to deliver psychological services with competence, compassion and ethical responsibility.

According to Dr. Mohd Faizal Mohd Zulkifly, Programme Coordinator for the Master in Clinical Psychology, USM@KL, the programme is designed to prepare future clinical psychologists with the knowledge, clinical competencies and professional values needed to respond to the growing mental health needs of society.

He said the programme, offered as a joint degree with Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), provides students with access to diverse academic expertise and a distinctive training approach. A key strength of the programme is its integration of neuroscience, enabling students to go beyond traditional clinical methods and develop a deeper understanding of the neural mechanisms underlying human behaviour, emotional distress and psychological recovery.

This integration of clinical care, scientific insight and research-led training prepares future scholar-practitioners who are able to contribute meaningfully to mental healthcare, academic development and professional practice.

Throughout the Open Day, visitors received personalised academic consultations and admissions guidance, allowing them to better understand the programme’s clinical training structure, research opportunities and career pathways within the mental health profession.

Graduates of the programme are well positioned to pursue careers as clinical psychologists in hospitals, healthcare institutions, universities, community mental health centres, rehabilitation facilities, research organisations and private practice. They are also equipped to assume leadership roles in advancing evidence-based mental healthcare and psychological services.

Through the Master in Clinical Psychology, USM@KL continues to strengthen its role in preparing future mental health professionals who bring together science, compassion and professional excellence to support the well-being of individuals, families and communities.
