USM PENANG, 17 April 2026 – An innovative workflow digitisation system developed by the Imaging Unit at the Pusat Kanser Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi (PKTAAB), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has showcased the strength of local technology in improving the efficiency of healthcare service delivery.

The project, Rad Trackers, developed by the Centre’s Innovative and Creative Group (KIK), emerged as champion in the Service Delivery category at the USM-Level New Horizon KIK Mini Convention 2026, held here yesterday.

Rad Trackers was developed using a lightweight, fast, and user-friendly application-based system, replacing existing manual methods with a more systematic and efficient approach.

The system enables appointment slots to be organised in a structured manner while facilitating medical officers in carrying out screening or vetting processes digitally.

For the Social category, the ‘Champion’ title was awarded to the School of Health Sciences, Health Campus, for its Intellectual Disability Employment Training Module – VT@USM project.

The guidebook produced through this initiative now serves as the primary reference for implementing the VT@USM programme. It adopts a Training of Trainers (TOT) approach to equip facilitators and drive the expansion of the programme nationwide.

The two-day mini convention was organised by the USM Centre for Human Transformation (PTI).

USM Registrar, Mohd Azizudin Mohd Shariff, was present to celebrate the winners during the event’s closing ceremony. Also in attendance was the Director of the Centre for Human Transformation, Nurul Izzati Rozali.

Azizudin said the convention serves as a strategic platform for the university to strengthen the culture of innovation and creativity among its staff, in line with its aspiration to enhance work process efficiency, technical development, and service delivery systems.

He added that the programme also helps to improve the quality of the university’s service delivery, while identifying the best groups to represent USM at the Public Universities (UA) KIK Convention scheduled to take place next August.

“An active participation reflects the strong commitment of the USM community in producing innovations that not only strengthen organisational capabilities but also generate a positive impact on society as a whole,” he said.

Meanwhile, a total of 10 groups participated in this year’s convention, involving representatives from the Main Campus, Health Campus, and Hospital Pakar USM (HPUSM), across two main categories, namely Service Delivery and Social.

The convention was evaluated holistically, covering project documentation, presentation sessions, demonstrations, and question-and-answer sessions.

A panel of external experts was appointed to ensure that the evaluation process was conducted in a transparent and professional manner.

As an incentive for participants, cash prizes, trophies, and certificates were awarded to the winners in each category.

Overall, the New Horizon KIK Mini Convention 2026 served as an important platform for generating innovative ideas and strengthening a culture of creativity in the workplace among the USM community.

The organisation of the convention is expected to further invigorate the university’s transformation efforts towards excellence in service delivery and improved work process efficiency.
