STRENGTHENING STUDENT LEADERSHIP AND DISCIPLINE THROUGH UNIFORMED BODIES PARADE DAY

USM PENANG, 6 June 2026 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) continues to reinforce its agenda of student character and leadership development through the organisation of the Uniformed Bodies Parade Day for the 2025/2026 Academic Session, held this morning at the Padang Kawad, USM.

The programme, which brought together various university uniformed bodies, served as an important platform to ignite the spirit of volunteerism, discipline, leadership, and unity among students.

USM Vice-Chancellor, Honorary Colonel Professor Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, who officiated the parade, expressed his highest appreciation and congratulations to all uniformed body units for successfully organising the programme with great enthusiasm, dedication, and commitment.

He also conveyed his gratitude to the Civil Defence Student Corps (Kor SISPA) as the organising chair; the Army, Navy and Air Force Reserve Officers Training Units (PALAPES); the Police Undergraduate Voluntary Corps (Kor SUKSIS); the Malaysian Red Crescent USM Chapter; St. John Ambulance; and the Malaysian Rover Scouts, all of whom played vital roles in ensuring the success of this prestigious programme.

“This programme not only reflects the spirit of volunteerism, leadership, and unity, but also serves as a platform to instill values of discipline as well as physical and mental resilience among USM students,” he said.

He further emphasised that active involvement in uniformed bodies helps shape self-discipline and strengthens essential soft skills as preparation for future life and career challenges.

“This is in line with the university’s aspiration to produce graduates who excel in both academics and co-curricular activities. Students are therefore encouraged to embrace the values of HEBAT – Holistic, Entrepreneurial, Balanced, Articulate, and Thinking,” explained Abdul Rahman, who also serves as Commandant of PALAPES and Commandant of Kor SUKSIS USM.

He stressed that participation in uniformed bodies is very much aligned with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI in producing future generations who are knowledgeable, disciplined, and of high integrity.

“The values of discipline, leadership, and teamwork demonstrated today are crucial assets in shaping the nation’s future leaders who embody a strong fighting spirit and love for the nation,” he added.

At the event, the Vice-Chancellor also inspected the parade and took the opportunity to pose for photographs with each participating uniformed body of the 2025/2026 Academic Session.

This year’s parade was led by SISPA Cadet Officer Mohammad Nasrun Wan Nawang and involved a total of 234 cadet officers from all other uniformed bodies.

The Malaysian Rover Scouts made their debut appearance at the parade following restructuring and the recruitment of their first batch of trainees beginning in the 2025/2026 Academic Session.

In addition to showcasing a disciplined and spirited parade, the programme also featured exhibitions by each participating uniformed body.

The exhibitions provided campus members and visitors with the opportunity to learn more about the roles, functions, training, achievements, and activities carried out by each unit.

This initiative further enhanced awareness of the contributions of uniformed bodies in shaping students who are resilient, of integrity, and possess a strong spirit of volunteerism.

Also present were Director of the USM Co-Curriculum Centre, Major Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Hazizan Mohd Hashim, who is also Deputy Commandant of PALAPES USM; Deputy Commandant of the Civil Defence Student Corps (SISPA) USM, Associate Professor Ts.
