USM EXPLORES GLOBAL COLLABORATION OPPORTUNITIES WITH BEIJING UNIVERSITY OF CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY (BUCT)
USM PENANG, 8 April 2026 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) continues to strengthen its international network by welcoming an official visit from a delegation of Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT), China.
The five-member delegation was led by Professor Liu Guiqin, Chair of the University Council, accompanied by deans and senior management representatives of BUCT.
Their arrival was warmly received by USM senior management, led by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic and International, Professor Dato’ Gs. Dr. Narimah Samat.
Narimah described the visit as a proactive step in positioning USM as a strategic partner for leading universities in China.
“This synergy not only benefits academic and research development but also opens up more dynamic innovation opportunities. It will further strengthen USM’s position as a globally competitive university,” she said.
She further added, “The main focus of this visit is to explore broader avenues of collaboration between the two institutions.”
Key areas of discussion included:
- Expertise Exchange: Potential collaboration in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, and Mathematical Sciences.
- Global Mobility: Establishing formal cooperation for student exchange programmes and joint research initiatives.
- Chemical Innovation: Leveraging BUCT’s strengths in chemical technology to align with USM’s research agenda.
During the presentation session, BUCT shared its expertise in science and technology, and introduced its state-of-the-art campus infrastructure.
Also present at the discussion were the Director of the Academic and International Division, Professor Dr. Lee Keat Teong; Dean of the School of Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor Dr. Ahmad Lutfi Amri Ramli; Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering, Associate Professor Dr. Abdullah Aziz Saad; Lecturer at the School of Physics, Dr. Teoh Ying Jia; and Lecturer at the School of Mathematical Sciences, Dr. Teng Mei Tuan.
