USM-SPEEQUAL SYNERGY LEADS QUADRUPLE HELIX COLLABORATION, EMPOWERING LANGUAGE AND TRANSLATION GRADUATES
USM PENANG, 7 April 2026 – In navigating today’s dynamic global economy, language mastery has evolved beyond a mere communication tool into a strategic career asset.
Recognising this, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) continues to strengthen its commitment to nurturing exceptional talent through the ‘Program Semai Bakat USM 2026.’
Held on 2–3 April 2026 at the School of Humanities (PPIK), the two-day programme was a strategic collaboration between the Translation and Interpretation Studies Section (BATI), PPIK; the Student Development Centre (PPP), Division of Student Development Affairs & Alumni (BHEPA), and SpeeQual Language Solutions as the primary industry partner.
A total of 70 participants were exposed to the realities of the language and translation industry.
This initiative went beyond knowledge-sharing, serving as a bridge between academic theory and professional standards, workplace quality, and technical skills demanded by today’s market.
The presence of USM leadership underscored the programme’s importance, including the Deputy Dean (Academic, Career & International), PPIK, Associate Professor Dr. Muhamad Hasrul Zakariah; Programme Coordinator, Dr. Anis Shahirah Abdul Sukur; and Head of Career and Graduate Employability Sector, BHEPA, Sollehin Ab Rahim.
Throughout the programme, participants gained insights from five leading industry representatives on localisation and marketing in the language sector.
In addition, mock interview simulations provided hands-on experience, boosting students’ confidence and readiness for real-world careers.
This initiative reflects USM’s strong support for the Graduate Employability Strategic Plan (PSKG) 2026–2030 by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE).
Aligned with MoHE’s vision, the next five years are seen as a critical phase in producing graduates who are not only employable but also future-ready and economically resilient.
MoHE’s current direction emphasises Life-Long Learning and talent empowerment through Quadruple Helix collaboration, a synergy between universities, industry players, policymakers, and communities.
‘Program Semai Bakat USM’ demonstrates how this open innovation ecosystem can sustainably develop holistic graduates while driving economic well-being.
