“PRETTY IN PURPLE” PROGRAMME CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY AT USM

USM PENANG, 20 May 2026 – The spirit of International Women’s Day (IWD) was brought to life at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) through the “Pretty in Purple” programme, jointly organised by Muzium & Galeri Tuanku Fauziah (MGTF) and Centre for Research on Women and Gender (Pusat Penyelidikan Wanita dan Gender, KANITA).
Held at MGTF, USM, on 29 April 2026, the programme highlighted the significance of women’s empowerment while promoting awareness on self-care and well-being in a creative and inclusive setting.

A key highlight of the programme was the interactive and hands on activities, which included a batik making session themed in purple, a kombucha making workshop by Dr. Lai Wan Teng, and a sharing session focusing on self-care strategies for women by KANITA Director, Professor Dr. Intan Hashimah Mohd Hashim.
These activities provided participants with practical skills while encouraging a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
The initiative also underscored the importance of creating safe and supportive spaces for women to learn, connect, and grow together.

Participants had the opportunity to engage in meaningful exchanges while enjoying a relaxed and vibrant atmosphere.

“Pretty in Purple” successfully brought together members of the university and the surrounding community, strengthening engagement and fostering a spirit of togetherness in celebrating women’s roles and contributions.
