KUALA LUMPUR, 19 May 2026 – The International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition 2026 highlighted the expanding role of innovation within today’s global economy by positioning invention as part of a broader ecosystem involving intellectual property, commercialisation, industrial collaboration, and technological sustainability.

Held from 18 to 20 May 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, the exhibition gathered inventors, investors, industry representatives, entrepreneurs, and research institutions through a platform designed to strengthen technology translation and market connectivity.

Adding significance to the international exhibition, six inventor-experts from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) representing various schools, research centres, and specialised academic divisions participated in the event, presenting innovations across multiple scientific and technological disciplines.

Through initiatives such as the “Meet the Investor Programme,” ITEX 2026 reflected the increasing importance of scalability, implementation potential, and industrial relevance within contemporary innovation ecosystems. The exhibition also featured forums organised by the Asian Intellectual Property Organization (AIPO), including discussions on patents, market positioning, and intellectual property strategy as key components of long-term technological competitiveness.

The inclusion of ITEX INNOPITCH further demonstrated how researchers and inventors are increasingly expected to communicate scientific innovations effectively to investors, policymakers, and industry stakeholders within commercially driven environments.

According to Vice-Chancellor of USM, Professor Dato' Seri Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, innovation today requires stronger integration between research excellence, strategic thinking, and industry engagement.

“As global industries continue to evolve rapidly, research institutions must ensure that scientific knowledge is able to move beyond academic boundaries and contribute meaningfully to technological advancement, economic development, and real-world industry needs,” he said.

The participation of USM researchers at ITEX 2026 reflects the university’s continued commitment to advancing interdisciplinary research, innovation commercialisation, and industry-linked scientific development within the broader global innovation ecosystem.
