USM SELECTED TO SHOWCASE AT DEFENCE SERVICES ASIA (DSA) 2026 AND NATIONAL SECURITY (NATSEC) ASIA 2026

KUALA LUMPUR, 20 April 2026 – BitRanger Sdn. Bhd., a spin-off company from the Cybersecurity Research Centre (CYRES), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) was selected by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia to showcase OwlSight, a Security Operations Centre (SOC)-as-a-Service solution that seamlessly integrates state-of-the-art technology with expert human-in-the-loop analysis at the Defence Services Asia (DSA) 2026 and National Security (NATSEC) Asia 2026.
The prestigious event was officiated by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Also representing USM were the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato' Seri Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed; Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation, Professor Dr. Habibah A Wahab; and Director of the Industry Network Office, Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Wan Maryam Wan Ahmad Kamil.

Hosted, supported and co-organised by the Ministry of Defence Malaysia together with the organisers of DSA Exhibition and Conference, DSA is the largest defence and homeland security exhibition in Asia, featuring some of the world’s most advanced technologies, systems, hardware, and electronic warfare capabilities.
The ongoing 19th edition of DSA, held from 20 to 23 April 2026 at Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here, takes place alongside NATSEC Asia 2026.

More than 1,400 international companies from over 60 countries are participating, showcasing innovations in policing, battlefield healthcare, sea-based platform systems, training and simulation systems, and advanced security technologies.

USM is proud to be selected to showcase innovative solutions for Malaysia’s security and defence sector, highlighting a Malaysian-developed cybersecurity capability designed to strengthen national security.

Led by Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Shankar Karuppayah, BitRanger Sdn. Bhd. is presenting solutions commercialised from research and innovation undertaken at CYRES.

These efforts reflect USM’s commitment to translating research excellence into practical and affordable cybersecurity technologies that empower Malaysian organisations and support the nation’s digital resilience.
