USM, KUBANG KERIAN, KELANTAN, 15 March 2026 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) continues to strengthen its global leadership in neuroscience as Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, Professor Dato' Dr. Jafri Malin Abdullah takes part in the Global Brain Health Partnership (GBHP) through a strategic collaboration with the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and Harvard University.

Jafri, the Founding Director of USM’s Brain and Behaviour Cluster (BBC), has been invited as a featured speaker and panelist in the upcoming TUM–Harvard Global Brain Health Partnership Webinar, representing Malaysia on the international stage.

This high-level partnership between TUM’s Centre for Global Health and global academic institutions aims to address the rising global burden of neurological disorders by strengthening collaboration between advanced research centres in Europe and improving clinical access across Southeast Asia and other underserved regions.

USM’s involvement in the Global Brain Health Partnership reflects its “We Lead” philosophy and commitment to strengthening international collaboration in neuroscience.

Working alongside the TUM, Harvard University, and the Global Brain Consortium, the initiative highlights Malaysia’s growing role in addressing the global brain health gap, particularly through programmes such as the Brain-Train initiative that support training and knowledge transfer across regions.

The collaboration focuses on three (3) key pillars:

1. Digital Health Training: Implementing the ECHO model for neurological education
2. Capacity Building: Training specialist cadres in low-to-middle-income countries
3. Policy Advocacy: Elevating brain health as a primary goal for international development.

As an APEX university, USM continues to build strategic international networks that translate cutting-edge research into real-world healthcare impact, especially for underserved populations worldwide.

During the webinar, Jafri will join a distinguished panel including Andrea S. Winkler (TUM) and Professor Dr. Rajinder K. Dhamija (India), a distinguished neurologist, academic and currently serves as the Chair of the National Task Force on Brain Health in India.

Together, they will discuss the future of brain health in Asia and the importance of cross-continental collaboration in tackling neurological disorders.
