USM FC AIMING TO BECOME AMATEUR LEAGUE CHAMPION, AZM ROVERS FC AS THE FINAL HURDLE

USM PENANG, 21 January 2026 – USM FC is on the verge of creating a history of its own as they qualify to meet AZM Rovers FC in the final match of the ‘Perlawanan Akhir Liga Amatur (Amateur League Finals) 2025/2026’ that would be held at the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium, this coming Saturday, 24 January 2026, at 8.45 pm.
By reaching the finals, USM FC has confirmed its status as the first club from Penang to qualify into the A1 League for the 2026/2027 season, simultaneously uplifting the USM name in the arena of amateur football in the country.
USM FC emerged with an outstanding momentum after showing a consistent performance throughout the season, with its sharp attacking format and a highly-disciplined strong defense lineup.
USM Registrar, who doubles as the President of USM FC, Mohd Azizudin Mohd Shariff, sees this finals match as the apex of the whole team’s hard work.
“This is not merely a finals match, but a platform to show the true capabilities of USM FC. We come with one mission, and that is to become the champion,” he said.

Mohd Azizudin further said, the players have given their fullest commitment since the season started and they deserve to be in the finals, it is now time for USM FC to end the ‘fight’ and to become victorious.
“On behalf of the team, I would also like to convey our utmost appreciation and gratitude to the University, especially to the USM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, for the moral, physical, and financial support towards the USM FC team.

“The appreciation is also extended to other Heads of Departments for their consideration and thoughtfulness in allowing the staff to be excused from their daily duties, simultaneously allowing them to offer their full commitment to the team pasukan,” explained Mohd Azizudin.
However, the hurdle from AZM Rovers FC, coming from the state of Kelantan, cannot be taken lightly as the team is well-known for its aggressive style of playing, coupled with a strong fighting spirit, surely making this final match a tough and intense challenge for both teams.
Supporters who would be there at the match would offer a great moral support to both teams, and at the same time creating an exciting atmosphere for what has been said as a much-awaited final match in the Amateur Season this season.

“I am urging all staff and students of USM, including football supporters from Penang, to come together to the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium. Your support is truly important in ‘firing up’ the players on the field,” he said further.
He also said, the presence of supporters will surely provide the moral support to the players, at the same time showing a sense of togetherness and the feeling of pride of USM and Penang on the team’s achievement.
