MOHE DEPUTY SEC-GEN (DEVELOPMENT) INSPECTS RMK-13 PROJECTS AT USM

USM PENANG, 13 January 2026 - Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) welcomed the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) Deputy Secretary-General (Management and Development), Datuk Ts. Dr. Mohd Nor Azman Hassan, as part of his visit to inspect the progress of development projects at the university under Rolling Plan 1 of the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13), here yesterday.
The visit was meant to acquire an overall understanding on the status of several major projects implemented and approved for USM for 2026.

Mohd Nor Azman was taken to a few strategic locations, one of which was the proposed site for a new construction to serve as an expansion of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Sains@USM Complex in Bukit Jambul.
The project is expected to be fully completed by 2029 and would support the demands of teaching and high-impact research in the respective field.
The delegation also visited Building C08 (Lecture Hall A and B), School of Social Sciences to view the current facility, prior to an upgrade exercise to turn it into a Smart Learning Classroom with the funding coming from the RMK13 allocation.


They also visited the Cancer Clinical and Research Specialist Clinic (KPKPK) to inspect the proposed site for the construction of the Cancer Teaching Centre, being a major project of USM in enhancing the educational and research ecosystem on cancer in the country.
Aside from that, Mohd Nor Azman was also briefed on the operations of the Neuroscience Ward in KPKPK, which functions as a national referral and neurology treatment centre and supports the high-impact clinical research agenda.

Also present throughout the visit was USM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Director of USM Specialist Hospital (HPUSM), Director of Health Campus, Director of Engineering Campus, Director of KPKPK, USM Bursar, Director of Office of Project Management and representative of the Department of Facility Development and Management (JPPF).

This visit reflects the continued commitment of MOHE and USM in ensuring that the implementation of development projects under RMK13 will be done in a manner that is strategic, focused and having a continuous impact on the growth of higher education in the country.
