PENANG, 2 February 2026 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) proudly announces that its medical degree offered by the School of Medical Sciences has been officially recognised by the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) and the Ministry of Health (MOH) Singapore.
This makes USM the third Malaysian university whose medical degree is accepted for practice in Singapore after Universiti Malaya (UM) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
Effective 1 February 2026, USM joins a distinguished list of eight newly approved overseas institutions whose medical qualifications are recognised in Singapore.
This recognition underscores USM’s commitment to excellence in medical education and its role in producing world-class healthcare professionals.
The Vice-Chancellor of USM, Professor Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed said: “This recognition is a testament to the quality of our medical training and the dedication of our faculty and students. It affirms USM’s position as a leading institution in the region and opens new opportunities for our graduates to contribute to healthcare in Singapore and beyond.”
Singapore regularly reviews its list of registrable medical qualifications to ensure that foreign-trained doctors meet standards comparable to its own medical schools. Factors considered include:

- English as the language of instruction;
- Performance of doctors trained at these institutions.
With the latest addition, the total number of recognised overseas medical schools in Singapore rises from 112 to 120.
