USM THAIPUSAM THANNEER PANTHAL 2026: CONTINUING A LEGACY OF COMMUNITY SERVICE, VOLUNTEERISM, AND SUSTAINABILITY

PENANG, 28 January 2026 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) will once again organise the USM Thaipusam Thanneer Panthal 2026, continuing a long-standing community service initiative that has supported devotees and the wider public for more than five decades.
Building on the strong foundation established over the years, the USM Thaipusam Thanneer Panthal 2026 reaffirms the university’s enduring commitment to unity, inclusivity, volunteerism, and sustainability.
The initiative is organised by the Sekretariat Khidmat Masyarakat Thaipusam, USM, with the support of academic and administrative staff, local and international students, alumni, former staff, and volunteers.

Community Services for Thaipusam 2026
During the Thaipusam period, the USM Thanneer Panthal is expected to provide a range of community services, including:
- Free vegetarian meals for devotees;
- Distribution of cold drinks and refreshments;
- A dedicated mother-friendly corner for breastfeeding mothers;
- Community awareness and educational sharing sessions;
- Volunteer assistance to support devotees throughout the event.
In line with USM’s long-standing Go Green initiative, sustainability remains a key focus. The panthal will continue to adopt environmentally responsible practices, including the use of reusable stainless-steel plates and cups, waste reduction measures, and cleanliness awareness initiatives, reflecting USM’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship.
Platform for Volunteerism and Cultural Engagement
The USM Thaipusam Thanneer Panthal has long served as a platform for meaningful volunteer engagement and intercultural understanding.

Participation by local and international students offers valuable exposure to Malaysia’s cultural heritage while strengthening social cohesion through community service.
