‘COSMIC VOYAGE’ SPACE JOURNEY EXHIBITION OFFICIALLY OPENS AT USM TUANKU FAUZIAH MUSEUM & GALLERY
PENANG, 20 January 2026 – The Kembara Angkasa – Cosmic Voyage exhibition was officially inaugurated at the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Tuanku Fauziah Museum and Gallery (MGTF) by Penang State Mufti, Sahibus Samahah Associate Professor Dato' Dr. Mohd Sukki Othman.

Mohd Sukki stated that the study on (outer) space is of great significance.

“Indeed, the Cosmic Voyage space exhibition is a very significant effort because it brings together cosmic science, rational thought and divine contemplation under one intellectual space,” elaborated Mohd Sukki.

Dean of the School of Humanities, Associate Professor Dr. Jasni Sulong, who represented the USM Vice-Chancellor in giving the officiating speech, stated on the commitment by USM in expanding the culture of knowledge.

“We believe that this exhibition can inspire various segments of society, especially the younger generation, to approach science and astronomy with curiosity and an open mind,” Jasni added.

The exhibition sees the collaboration effort between MGTF, Dr. Chong Hon Yew of the Penang Astronomy Club and the USM School of the Arts (SOTA).
The objective of the exhibition is to serve as a public educational platform, which is open to primary and secondary students, in presenting a combination of technology, science and appreciation towards space studies.
Mr. Hanafi Ahmad, a visual arts teacher from SMK Bukit Jambul who brought his students to the exhibition as a field trip, shared that the exhibition provided beneficial exposure for the students.
“Coming to this exhibition, the students are able to take inspiration and ideas to apply to their own education. More so when this exhibition is a collaboration effort with SOTA, our students can also have a look at the level of art that is taught at the university,” elaborated Hanafi.
The exhibition showcased astronomy photographs and structures which are not only visually appealing but also serve as visual aids to educate visitors on cosmic knowledge, derived from humanity’s outer space ventures and research.
Ultimately, the exhibition provided a visual aid not only for cosmic studies but also in reflecting the commitment by USM towards knowledge as a whole.
