USM, ATU STRENGTHEN GLOBAL PARTNERSHIP THROUGH SEMINAR ON AI IN HEALTHCARE

USM PENANG, 14 December 2025 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), in collaboration with Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University (ATU), Iraq, successfully hosted the Seminar on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Healthcare from 10–11 December 2025 at the Auditorium INFORMM, USM main campus.
This seminar marks the first collaborative initiative following the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two universities last year—an encouraging milestone that paves the way for more impactful joint efforts in the future.

The opening ceremony was officiated by USM Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic and International, Professor Dato' Gs. Dr. Narimah Samat, alongside ATU Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Assistant President for Scientific Affairs), Professor Dr. Ahmed Ghanim Wadday.

The event was further distinguished by the presence of the Cultural Counselor and Iraqi Cultural Attaché to Malaysia, Assistant Professor Dr. Abduljaleel Mohammed Majeed, who delivered a special address highlighting the importance of academic and cultural exchange.

Jointly coordinated by the USM Division of Academic and International, the Advanced Medical and Dental Institute (IPPT), and the School of Computer Sciences, the seminar reflected strong multidisciplinary support and commitment to advancing global academic collaboration.

The seminar brought together 80 participants, including academic staff, students, researchers, and administrative personnel, underscoring the diverse and engaged participation across the university community.

Designed to deepen understanding of cutting-edge developments in artificial intelligence, the sessions explored how emerging technologies are transforming healthcare, from clinical decision support and medical imaging to predictive analytics, telehealth, and implementation science.
In addition, the programme provided a platform for meaningful dialogue on ethical considerations, data security and privacy, governance, regulatory frameworks, and the real-world effectiveness of AI interventions, ensuring that innovation in healthcare continues with accountability and public trust.
