PROF. DATO’ DR. JAFRI MALIN ABDULLAH ELECTED AS FELLOW OF THE ISLAMIC WORLD ACADEMY OF SCIENCES (FIAS) UNDER THE FIELD OF NEUROSCIENCES

KELANTAN, 13 November 2025 - In a remarkable achievement that underscores Malaysia’s growing prominence in global scientific leadership, Professor Dato’ Dr. Haji Jafri Malin Abdullah, Chairman of the Brain and Behaviour Cluster, Universiti Sains Malaysia Specialist Hospital & the School of Medical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), has been officially elected as a Fellow of the Islamic World Academy of Sciences (FIAS).
The prestigious announcement was made through an official letter from Prof. Adnan Badran, President of the Islamic World Academy of Sciences (IAS), dated 11 November 2025, following the ratification of the 2025 IAS Fellowship Elections by the General Assembly held on 30 October 2025. Prof. Jafri joins the ranks of the world’s most distinguished scientists who have contributed significantly to advancing science and technology within the Islamic world and beyond.This is the first time an Islamic Scientist has been awarded under the neuroscience category.

Out of 9 Fellows elected globally this year, 3 Malaysians including Prof. Jafri were accorded this recognition — a testament to Prof. Jafri’s outstanding contributions to the field of neurosciences, medical innovation, and scientific leadership. His election places him alongside an elite group of global scientific figures representing 30 nationalities, drawn from leading academic and research institutions across the world.Prof Jafri is a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences, Malaysia since 2009.

The Islamic World Academy of Sciences (IAS), established in 1986 in Amman, Jordan, serves as an international platform under the auspices of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The Academy brings together eminent scientists, including Nobel Laureates, national leaders, and top researchers, to foster cooperation and influence science policy in OIC member countries.
Prof. Jafri’s induction as a Fellow of IAS reflects his lifelong commitment to advancing medical research, particularly in neurosciences and brain behavior studies. It also highlights Malaysia’s scientific excellence on the world stage, reinforcing USM’s reputation as a leading research university dedicated to innovation, education, and societal impact.
