USM VICE-CHANCELLOR’S KEYNOTE AT BUF 2025 HIGHLIGHTS VISION FOR SUSTAINABLE AND INCLUSIVE GLOBAL TALENT DEVELOPMENT

TOKYO, JAPAN, 14 November 2025 — The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Professor Dato' Seri Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, delivered a distinguished keynote address entitled “USM’s Journey in Developing Future Global Citizens: Engagement with the Industry and Community” at the Business-University Forum of Japan (BUF) International Symposium 2025 in Tokyo.

Abdul Rahman was invited by the Business-University Forum of Japan (BUF), an esteemed platform that convenes prominent leaders from academia and industry to exchange insights and advance strategic collaborations between universities and businesses.

Established to deepen mutual understanding and foster long-term partnerships, the Forum has evolved into a key catalyst for innovation and human capital development in Japan and beyond.

The symposium featured the participation of presidents and senior representatives from Japan’s most prestigious institutions, including Professor Fujii Teruo (University of Tokyo), Professor Tanaka Aiji (Waseda University), Professor Itoh Kohei (Keio University), and Professor Gonokami Makoto (RIKEN).

Following his keynote address, Abdul Rahman was invited to serve as a panelist in a high-level discussion titled “Designing a Future Society for All Generations: Human Capital Design.”

The session featured esteemed global figures, including the President Emeritus of the Institute of International Education (IIE), USA, Professor Allen E. Goodman.

Throughout the symposium, participants engaged in forward-thinking and innovative discussions on a wide spectrum of topics, including AI ethics, human-centric technological development, gendered innovation, and next-generation education.

These conversations underscored the indispensable role of cross-sector partnerships in shaping a sustainable, equitable, and future-ready global society.

Abdul Rahman’s active participation elevated USM’s presence on the international stage and reaffirmed the University’s unwavering commitment to global dialogue, transformative collaboration, and community-engaged innovation.

His contributions reflect USM’s mission to cultivate future-ready global citizens and position the University as a leading voice in shaping the future of higher education and societal progress.
