TWO USM RESEARCHERS BAG PRESTIGIOUS INTERNATIONAL AWARD
PENANG, 30 December 2013 - Two Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) lecturers did the University proud when they bagged the World Research Award 2013 at The World Inventor Festival (WIAF) competition held in Seoul, Korea recently.
They are Professor Dr. Abdul Latif Ahmad, a researcher from the School of Chemical Engineering and Professor Dr. Darah Ibrahim from the School of Biological Sciences.
Abdul Latif who has extensive expertise in the field of membrane technology specialising in environmental protection received the award for the environmental and pollution control category.
Meanwhile, Darah Ibrahim, an experienced researcher working on solid state fermentation technology which is capable of converting waste into value-added products, was recognised in the biotechnology category.
Both the lecturers were evaluated based on a specific set of criteria including career achievement and research contributions in the field of economy, scientific publications, teaching and learning activities.
