THREE GREEN TECHNOLOGY PROJECTS LAUNCHED IN MELAKA

MELAKA, 23 December 2013 - Three green technology projects were launched today by the Ministry of Education Knowledge Transfer Programme with the Melaka state government and the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (PEMANDU), Prime Minister’s Department.

The three projects are Kelestarian Tenaga Dicapai Menerusi Audit Tenaga dan Amalan Terbaik Kecekapan Tenaga Di Sekolah Menengah Terpilih Melaka led by Assoc. Professor Dr. Mohd Wira Mohd. Shafiei from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM); Vermikompost For Urban Solid Waste Recycling for Promoting Green Technology headed by Professor Dr. Azni Idris from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM); and Pemindahan Teknologi Lestari untuk Menyahtoksik Pencemar Udara Persekitaran Dalam dengan Foto Pemangkin di Bawah Cahaya Nampak: Ke Arah Bangunan Hijau, led by Assoc. Professor Dr. Srimala Sreekantan from USM.

USM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato' Dr. Omar Osman, who is the Chairman of the New Critical Agenda Project of National Higher Education Strategic Plan (PSPTN) - Knowledge Transfer Programme in his speech at the opening ceremony of the Knowledge Transfer Project workshop here said, the Knowledge Transfer Programme is able to generate human and intellectual capital development in realising the aspiration of Knowledge for All.

 

This programme is designed to promote the transfer of knowledge from public universities to the community by targeting industries and communities as the prime mover in expanding knowledge to the society.

"This programme is also seen as a solution to empower the society with knowledge in order to improve the living standards and income of the industries and communities throughout the country in line with the concept of inclusiveness and attaining a high income nation status by 2020," said Omar.

The Knowledge Transfer Programme implemented since 2012 formally recognises and promotes the transfer of knowledge through the exchange of creative ideas and innovative use of the expertise and experiences of academicians, researchers and scholars in the public universities across the country.

Present at the ceremony were the Chairman of the Melaka State Committee, Education, Higher Education, Science and Technology, Green Technology and Innovation, Dato' Wira Haji Yunos Husin; Director of PEMANDU Public Sector Delivery, Dato' Dr. Amin Khan; Director of Program Management Office, Ministry of Education, Assoc.
