Siti Zubaidah A. Hamid, 57, who hails from Alor Setar, Kedah was appointed as the Registrar of Universiti SainsMalaysia (USM) effective from 1st January 2013. USM Board of Governors recommended the appointment of Siti Zubaidah succeeding Jamahyah Basiron who held the position as acting Registrar before she opted for optional retirement last year.

Siti Zubaidah who holds a Master of Science Education from the University of Southern California in Counselling and a Bachelor of Arts (Counselling) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) began her career in USM as an Administrative Officer (Counselor) in August 1979, led the USM Counseling Unit in 1986 and was appointed as aSenior Deputy Registrar in 2002.

Siti Zubaidah later was appointed as the Director of Malaysian Students' Department in Washington DC between 2006 - 2009 before returning to work in USM Research and Innovation Division.

Siti Zubaidah is USM’s eighth Registrar. As Registrar, Siti Zubaidah is responsible for the overall universityadministration including human resources management and development as well as heading the day-to-dayoperational processes. - Text: Mohamad Abdullah/Photo: Mohd.
