USM HEALTH CAMPUS WELCOMES 568 NEW STUDENTS – STRENGTHENING ITS ROLE AS THE NATION’S HEALTH EDUCATION HUB
USM, KUBANG KERIAN, KELANTAN, 1 October 2025 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Health Campus welcomed a total of 568 new students enrolling in various undergraduate programmes for the 2025/2026 Academic Session, further strengthening its role as a premier centre for health, medical, and dental education in Malaysia.
Of the total, 142 students registered with the School of Medical Sciences, 42 with the School of Dental Sciences, 314 with the School of Health Sciences, while 70 students were Feeder Programme (Pre-University USM) candidates from the Life Sciences stream of Kolej MARA Kulim, offered to pursue their studies in the Doctor of Medicine programme at USM-KLE, India.
According to USM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, the 568 students at the Health Campus are part of the 4,936 students accepted into USM for the 2025/2026 Academic Session.
“Congratulations to all new students for earning a place at this prestigious and reputable campus dedicated to the health sciences.
“The Health Campus is not merely an academic institution—it serves as a national and international reference centre in the field of health and medicine.
This is where thousands of doctors, nurses, rehabilitation specialists, and healthcare professionals have been nurtured—individuals who now serve not only across Malaysia but also on the global stage,” he said during his address at the Majlis Sambutan Siswa held at the Main Hall, USM Health Campus, today.
Abdul Rahman also reminded students that success in health-related studies does not come easily but requires perseverance, patience, and unwavering commitment.
“You have chosen to become part of the USM family. Make sure this is the right, best, and most meaningful choice.
This decision marks the beginning of your journey to prove to yourself, your family, and society that you are capable of success and ready to contribute significantly to the nation,” he said.
He added that this year’s intake also reflects USM’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusive education and equitable access for vulnerable and special-needs groups.
“A total of 17 students with disabilities (OKU) have been offered placements across USM’s three campuses. They will be provided with first-class residential facilities equipped with OKU-friendly features such as accessible washrooms, wheelchair ramps, and parking spaces near their rooms.
This year’s intake also includes one Orang Asli student, who has been accepted into the Medical Radiation Programme at the School of Health Sciences,” he explained.
Abdul Rahman further urged new students to make the most of every opportunity throughout their academic journey and to use their experience at USM Health Campus as a platform for personal growth, professional development, and national contribution.
“The nation needs healthcare talents who are knowledgeable, ethical, and possess integrity.
Be individuals who bring meaningful change, whether serving in remote villages, major hospitals, or international arenas.
I pray that you remain resilient and steadfast throughout your studies at USM. Let your campus experience be something you cherish for life,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Marisa Manu, 20, an Orang Asli student, expressed her joy at being accepted into her first-choice programme, Medical Radiation, making her one of the new students registering at the Health Campus for the 2025/2026 Academic Session.
“I never expected to be accepted into the Medical Radiation Programme because I was unsure of my performance during the interview.
Fortunately, luck was on my side as I was among the 32 students selected to join this programme at USM.
I hope to complete my studies successfully and become an outstanding student one day.
My dream is to make my community proud—the Jakun tribe of the Orang Asli from Sungai Buloh, Selangor,” she shared.
