TRIPLE JOY AS THREE SETS OF TWINS REGISTER AT USM ENGINEERING CAMPUS
NIBONG TEBAL, 28 September 2025 – The registration of new students for the 2025/2026 Academic Session at Universiti Sains Malaysia’s (USM) Engineering Campus was made more lively today with the presence of three sets of twins beginning their undergraduate journey.
Identical twins Amer Haqem Shazzly and Amer Hazem Shazzly, both 19 and former students of Kolej Matrikulasi Melaka, have each chosen to pursue Civil Engineering.
They shared that this was their first time leaving their home state of Melaka to further their studies, while the encouragement of their elder sister in the same field also influenced their decision.
Fraternal twins Muhammad Azfar Zulkifli and Muhammad Faiz Zulkifli, also 19, opted for Mechatronic Engineering at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
The former Kolej Matrikulasi Pulau Pinang (KMPP) students said their interest in robotics from a young age inspired the choice, while USM’s reputation as one of the country’s leading engineering universities made it their preferred destination.
Adding to the significance, their mother Haslinda Razali, 49, who is an alumna of USM’s School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering, was present at the registration session.
The third set of twins, Nur Raifa Mohamad Rozi and Nur Raina Mohamad Rozi, both 19, enrolled in Chemical Engineering.
Apart from the twins, another notable new student was Aiman Safwan Mohd Mustafa Al Bakri, 19, the son of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs), Professor Dr. Mohd Mustafa Al Bakri Abdullah, who is also an alumnus of USM’s School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering.
Aiman Safwan will be pursuing Mechanical Engineering.
As of this afternoon, 792 of the 919 students offered places had registered.
With this intake, the USM Engineering Campus now hosts nearly 5,000 students across six schools, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
