USM AND CREST STRENGTHEN STRATEGIC COLLABORATION TO POWER MALAYSIA’S SEMICONDUCTOR TALENT ECOSYSTEM
KUALA LUMPUR, 27 August 2025 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), as the appointed coordinator of the Electrical & Electronic (E&E) Consortium (CEE) under the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Collaborative Research in Engineering, Science & Technology (CREST) today, to spearhead a stronger academia-industry alliance through the Engineering Talent for Semiconductor Industry (ETSI) programme.
This collaboration marks a crucial evolution in cultivating Malaysia’s semiconductor talent ecosystem to proactively address the demands of the future industry landscape.
By uniting 18 public universities under the CEE consortium, USM assumes a strategic role in harmonising academic excellence with industry needs, an essential step towards fulfilling the ambitious goals set forth in the National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS).
Through this initiative, university curricula will be realigned to reflect the latest technological advancements and industry practices, ensuring that graduates are equipped with in-demand, practical skills.
In addition, the ETSI Finishing School will provide structured certification to further boost graduate readiness and employability in the fast-evolving high-tech sector.
As Malaysia’s only APEX university and a national leader in research, innovation, and talent development, USM champions strategic partnerships with a clear vision for the future, elevating national capabilities, transforming educational ecosystems, and positioning Malaysia at the forefront of Asia’s semiconductor revolution.
