BRIDGING ACADEMIA AND INDUSTRY: SLB ENGAGES WITH GEOPHYSICS USM STUDENTS
USM PENANG, 4 July 2025 – The Geophysics Group at the School of Physics, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), recently hosted representatives from Schlumberger (M) Sdn. Bhd. (SLB) for a two-day engagement programme that featured an insightful talk session and an exclusive interview session for final-year and postgraduate Geophysics students.
The SLB delegation included Hanif Sheikh Ali, Dayang Aini Awang Piut, Wael Ben Habel, Elijah How, Aisyah Amna M. Saud, and Hafizah Lyana Peter.
Notably, fourth-year students currently undergoing industrial training returned to USM to join the session, reflecting their keen interest in industry engagement and future career prospects with SLB.
SLB has previously provided a Petrel software license to the Geophysics Group for seismic data processing in both research and teaching, demonstrating their strong commitment to academic collaboration.
This initiative has greatly enhanced students’ exposure to industry-standard tools and improved their practical skills in seismic processing and interpretation.
The School of Physics expressed heartfelt appreciation to the SLB team for their continued support towards the Geophysics programme at USM and for sharing valuable industry insights, particularly in the fields of geophysics and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS).
Special thanks were also extended to the Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azhar Abdul Rahman; Geophysics Programme Chair, Dr. Nur Azwin Ismail; and all Geophysics lecturers for their dedicated efforts in making the event a success.
Geophysics USM remains committed to producing well-rounded, industry-ready graduates and to strengthening university–industry collaboration through ongoing engagement, research partnerships, and knowledge exchange.
