NIGHT SAFARI AT USM: STUDENTS CELEBRATE UNITY IN DIVERSITY AT FUSE 2025
USM PENANG, 13 June 2025 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) came alive last night as more than 3,500 local and international students gathered at Tasik Aman for FUSE 2025: Night Safari – Igniting the Wild, Uniting Cultures.
It was a vibrant cultural night celebrating unity in diversity and global connection.
Organised by the USM International Mobility and Collaboration Centre (IMCC) and the USM Student Buddies, FUSE brought together students from over 16 countries for an immersive evening of food, music, and intercultural exchange.
The event aligns with USM’s Internationalisation at Home agenda, promoting global understanding on campus.
FUSE (Friends Unite, Share, and Explore) featured dynamic cultural booths, captivating performances, and breathtaking fire shows under the stars.
Among the highlights were traditional dances, local and international food tastings, and an engaging “booth-to-booth” introduction segment, encouraging students to mingle, ask questions, and explore unfamiliar cultures.
The Night Safari theme created an atmosphere of adventure and discovery, with students proudly donning cultural attire and sharing their traditions.
Local students and international exchange participants from countries such as Malaysia, the USA, Pakistan, Indonesia, Canada, and more joined the festivities.
According to Jason from the USA, “I’d love to see a themed night where people from different cultures can come together and share their perspectives on a specific topic—like dating customs or traditional foods. It would be a great way to learn more deeply and personally.”
“FUSE is absolutely amazing! I’m thrilled to meet so many people from different countries I never imagined I’d encounter. It’s also a great opportunity to showcase the beauty and diversity of American culture. The energy is infectious and welcoming,” said another student, Elizabeth Anne Andrews.
FUSE 2025 wasn’t just an event; it was a celebration of global citizenship and unity.
As the night ended with fire shows, performances, and an award ceremony recognising the best booths and talents, students left with new friends, cultural insights, and memories that transcend borders.
As USM continues to expand its global footprint and strengthen its internationalisation agenda, FUSE remains a shining example of how cultural exchange can spark meaningful connections and inspire students to become citizens of the world.
