USM CHAMPIONS GLOBAL STUDENT ENGAGEMENT IN RESEARCH AND INNOVATION AT ICPM 2025
PENANG, 22 May 2025 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) continues to champion global student engagement and academic collaboration through its active participation in the Malaysia International Conference of Project Management (ICPM) 2025.
Co-hosted by the Association of International Business and Professional Management (AIBPM), Indonesia, in collaboration with INTI International College Penang, the hybrid conference was held on 16-17 May 2025, featuring virtual presentations on the first day and an in-person conference at INTI International College Penang on the second day.
Focusing on the theme “AI-Driven Project Management: Innovation, Challenges, and the Future of Work in Public Policy,” the conference provided a platform for researchers, industry professionals, academics, and students to exchange ideas on how artificial intelligence is reshaping project management and public policy in the digital age.
Strengthening International Collaborations
The conference witnessed a significant milestone with the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) between Hengxing University, China and several institutions, including USM, INTI International College Penang, and AIBPM.
The agreements were signed by:
- Zhao Jing Jing, Vice President of Hengxing University
- Associate Professor Dr. Daisy Kee Mui Hung, Dean Representative from USM’s School of Management
- Hemalatha Murugiah, Chief Executive of INTI International College Penang
- Liem Gai Sin, President of AIBPM
Additionally, USM and AIBPM signed a separate MoU, further strengthening academic and research collaborations across borders.
USM’s Strong Presence and Achievements
USM showcased its strong commitment to research excellence and student engagement through various key participations:
- Best Paper Award: Awarded to Dr. Gan Kia Hui, alongside Associate Professor Dr. Daisy Kee Mui Hung and Tan Jie Hong, for their outstanding academic contribution.
- Best Presenter Awards: Chen Pengyu and Wong Foong Meng, postgraduate students from USM’s School of Management, were recognised for their presentations.
- Keynote Speaker: Dr. Eddie Hu, a recent PhD graduate, was invited as a keynote speaker.
- Moderator Role: Mr. Sandeep, a new PhD student, was invited to serve as an event moderator.
- Nusantara Project Participation: A total of 153 undergraduate students from USM’s School of Management actively participated in the Nusantara Project, gaining valuable global exposure and engagement.
Building the Future of AI-Driven Project Management
The conference was officiated by the Penang State Executive Councillor for Tourism and Creative Economy, YB Wong Hon Wai, who praised the collaboration for fostering international academic exchange and equipping students and professionals to navigate the growing demands of AI-driven project management.
With USM’s continued participation and recognition in global academic platforms, the university reinforces its commitment to innovative research, international partnerships, and student empowerment in the evolving landscape of AI-driven project management.
