CDR HEALTH TALK ON ERGONOMICS AND POSTURE: PROMOTING WORKPLACE SUSTAINABILITY AND WELL-BEING
USM PENANG, 21 May 2025 - The Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Centre for Drug Research (CDR), in collaboration with Pusat Transformasi Insan (PTI), organised a health talk entitled ‘Ergonomics and Posture’ as part of the ‘Program Latihan Dalam Perkhidmatan’ @PPDU.
Held on 16 May 2025 at Pusat Penyelidikan Dadah dan Ubat-ubatan (PPDU) Meeting Room, the event attracted academic and administrative staff as well as students from across the university.
The featured speaker, Mr. Sahar Sulaiman, is a certified physiotherapist and CEO of GT Physio and Rehabilitation with more than 22 years of experience.
He delivered a lively and informative talk on the importance of ergonomics in everyday life, especially in work settings. His session included valuable tips on posture correction and movement strategies to prevent common musculoskeletal problems.
The three-hour programme included a talk, a Q&A session, a live demonstration of ergonomic techniques, and individual physical assessments.
Mr. Sahar’s hands-on approach helped participants better understand the practical steps they could take to improve their physical well-being.
In addition to the main session, GT Physio & Rehabilitation Centre also set up a free physical screening booth at the CDR foyer.
The booth drew strong interest from the wider USM community, offering early pain detection, mobility and stability checks, and personalised advice on improving body mechanics.
The event reflected USM’s wider mission to support sustainable workplace practices and staff well-being, while encouraging continued professional development by awarding CPD (Continuing Professional Development) points to attendees.
The programme also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, and Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.
By promoting a healthier and more ergonomic work environment, the event contributes to the university’s efforts to support global development priorities.
