USM FOOD TECHNOLOGY STUDENT RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS 2024 MIFT BEST STUDENT AWARD
USM PENANG, 2 May 2025 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) final-year Food Technology student, Andy Yeoh Guan Lai, has been awarded the prestigious 2024 MIFT Best Student Award by the Malaysian Institute of Food Technology (MIFT) recently.
The award recognises students who demonstrate exceptional dedication to the field of food science and technology at the national level.
This distinguished national recognition celebrates Andy’s exemplary commitment to food science and technology, as reflected in his academic excellence, active participation in extracurricular and professional activities, and dedication to holistic student development.
Notably, in the recent 14th National Food Science dan Technology Competition (NFSTC) 2025, Andy ranked among the Top 5 scorers nationwide and emerged as the national champion in the Food Bowl Quiz competition.
His victory earned him the honour of representing Malaysia at the ASEAN-level Food Bowl Quiz during the 18th ASEAN Food Conference (AFC) 2025, to be held in the Philippines.
There, he will compete against top students from other ASEAN countries, further showcasing Malaysia’s and USM’s academic excellence on the regional stage.
As the MIFT Best Student Award recipient, Andy receives RM500 cash, a MIFT Best Student Award Certificate, and a one-year MIFT Graduation Membership with a full registration fee waiver.
His achievements are a true reflection of USM’s commitment to nurturing future leaders in the field of food science and technology.
This recognition is not only a testament to Andy’s individual excellence but also a proud moment for USM and the School of Industrial Technology.
His accomplishment serves as an inspiration to fellow students to pursue excellence with integrity, leadership with humility, and innovation with purpose.
