GSB USM, BINUS UNIVERSITY STRENGTHEN COLLABORATION IN BUSINESS STUDIES AT IBSS 2024
USM PENANG, 5 November 2024 – The Graduate School of Business (GSB) at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), in collaboration with BINUS University, Indonesia, successfully hosted the inaugural International Business Scholars Symposium 2024 (1st IBSS, 2024) held at the USM Main Campus on 26–27 October 2024.
This symposium brought together diverse expertise and resources from both institutions, underscoring the strength of their collaboration and commitment to advancing academic excellence, fostering innovation, and shaping the next generation of business leaders and scholars.
The event was chaired by Associate Professor Dr. Yuvaraj Ganesan (GSB USM), with Dr. Rano Kartono Rahim (BINUS) and Associate Professor Dr. Teoh Ai Ping (GSB USM) serving as co-chairs.
The Dean of GSB USM, Associate Professor Dr. Fathyah Hashim, acted as the symposium’s advisor, while the BINUS University delegation was led by Dr. Sri Bramantoro Abdinagoro.
The symposium also provided a dynamic and thought-provoking platform for discussions on Building and Sustaining Organisational Resilience: Sustainable Value Creation and Steward Leadership into the Future.
Esteemed panelists included Professor Dr. Idris Gautama So, S.E., S. Kom., M.M., Ph.D. (Professor of Management Science, BINUS University); Professor Dr. Sofri Yahya (Professor of Accounting and Strategic Innovation, GSB USM); and Dr. Sazani Shafie (Director, Broadcom Global Distribution and Industry-Community Advisory Panel (ICAP), GSB USM); and moderated by Associate Professor Dr. Ellisha Nasruddin.
Yuvaraj said, “The event featured not only insightful discussions but also a 5-Minute Dissertation Pitching Competition, showcasing PhD students from BINUS University, along with research presentations from 48 participants across both universities.”
Overall, he added, the symposium fostered meaningful academic exchanges and enhanced collaboration among scholars from diverse disciplines, broadening its reach and increasing visibility for both institutions.
“This not only strengthened the impact of the symposium but also elevated the profiles of both universities involved,” he said.
GSB USM was established in 2008 to fulfill the needs of industry, and to promote and nurture business sustainability in Malaysia, specifically in the Northern region.
GSB USM also inspires to be a Top Business School (TBS) in the neighbouring Asia region. It is an international level TBS that provides post-graduate business programmes on par with those offered by world-renowned universities.
