REFLECTING ON THE SPIRIT OF THAIPUSAM WITH SEKRETARIAT KHIDMAT MASYARAKAT THAIPUSAM USM 2024
PENANG, 11 February 2024 – As we look at the Thaipusam celebration, it is evident that Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Thaneer Panthal (refreshment stall) stands out as one of the prominent Thaneer Panthal with a history spanning over 40 years.
The panthal was put together with the support from the USM workforce which comprised of the staff, alumni, and students from the Sekretariat Sukarelawan India (SSI) and Persatuan Kebudayaan India (PKI).
This annual event has been a staple filled with joy and happiness, with the aim of welcoming the devotees and visitors with free vegetarian food and drinks and at the same time, celebrate the festival (Thaipusam) which fell on 25 January this year.
For the 2nd consecutive year, USM Panthal has sustained its Breastfeeding Corners KB initiative, ensuring a secure and comfortable area for mothers to breastfeed amid the vibrant celebrations.
This year, we also had volunteers from the University of Western Australia (UWA) that joined forces and helped with free refreshments and food serving on Thaipusam Day.
The event was brought together by the volunteers in a tapestry of colours and shared devotion.
Chairman of Sekretariat Khidmat Masyarakat Thaipusam USM, Dr. Subramaniam Govindan, along with the entire team, would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to everyone who have played a role in the success of this celebration.
“Your active participation turned the USM Penang Thaipusam Thanner Panthal into a truly memorable experience,” he said.
USM Thaneer Panthal treasurer, Dr. Shankar Karuppayah said, Thaneer Panthal stands as a testament to the unity that transcends our diverse backgrounds.
“The celebration was not just an event; it was a collective expression of cultural harmony, showcasing the strength that emerges from embracing diversity,” he added.
