PENANG, 22 November 2019 – With the mission to bring the world to USM and USM to the world, the recent 5th International Cultural Fiesta 2019 (ICF2019) was successfully organised by the International Mobility and Collaboration Centre (IMCC) and Buddies of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

Close to 2,500 local and international students attended the event, held at the Dewan Tuanku Syed Putra in the USM main campus, which promoted cultural exchange and provided new experiences in internationalisation.

With the theme 'Journey Through the Cave of Wonders' and presenting characters from the ‘Aladdin’ movie such as Genie, Prince Ali and Princess Jasmine, the organisers have brought the audience into the movie and experiencing a new adventure.

Also present were the Honorary Consul of the Republic of France in Penang, Teoh Seng Aun; USM Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic and International, Professor Dato' Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah and wife, Professor Datin Dr. Azlina Harun@Kamaruddin; Senior Assistant Director, Department of Higher Education Malaysia, Nor Zalfarita Muhammad Nor representing the Director; and Director of IMCC, Dr. Muhizam Mustafa.

 

Three major competitions were held at the fiesta, namely the Singing Malay Song Competition, Best Cultural Booth Presentation and Cultural Performance. Winners of each competition are listed below:

Winners of the Singing Malay Song Competition:

Champion - MOHAMACH ROUSLAN (22 yrs old) from VIETNAM with the song 'Di Matamu'

1st Runner Up - DHITA HERDHIANI PUTRI (19 yrs old) from INDONESIA with the song 'Anta Permana'

2nd Runner Up - TENG CHENG PING (24 yrs old) from TAIWAN with the song 'Hang Pi Mana'
