USM CONTINUES TO NURTURE STUDENTS TO BECOME H.E.B.A.T. MODELS OF SUCCESS
NILAI, April 2019 – Three students from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) were chosen as recipients of leadership awards at the recent Majlis Anugerah Tokoh Siswa 2018 (ATS), held at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM).
The students who received the awards were Nur Najjah Abd Manas (Uniformed Bodies Leadership Award), Jerry Yacob (Cultural Programme Leadership Award) and Faizah Irdina Mohd Fauzi (Director-General of Higher Education Special Award).
Nur Najjah and Jerry each received RM1,000 cash prize, a trophy, student leadership scholarship and certificate, presented to them by the Malaysian Minister of Education, Dr. Maszlee Malik.
Maszlee later said that he hoped for the award recipients to double their effort in pursuing excellence, as they would reflect the role of universities as leading centres of scholarly pursuits.
USM, through its academic and co-curricular programmes, has always aspired to nurture its students to become graduates with H.E.B.A.T. characteristics. Characteristics such as being Holistic, Entrepreneurial, Balanced, Articulate and Thinking are needed in order for the students to face the world upon graduation, and in dealing with various challenges and uncertainties in a more globalised future.
Students who are balanced in knowledge and character would surely be able to contribute to a more productive and positive future for the nation and the world.
ATS celebrates students’ achievements in 15 categories, as they show their leadership characteristics with their involvement in impactful programmes locally and abroad within their respective fields.
It continues in giving acknowledgement to students as they become towering personalities wherever they may be, while ensuring the growth of the country as a global education hub.
